WAFU B: Nigeria awaits Ivory Coast/Ghana clash to know their fate


Nigeria Golden Eaglets are on the verge of crashing out of the West Africa Football Union, (WAFU Zone B)U-17 tournament taking place in Lome, Togo, after registering a 1-1 draw with the Black Starlets of Ghana in their last Group B game.

Haven lost their opening game to Ivory Coast on Wednesday, the Golden Eaglets needed an outright win against Ghana to stand a chance of reaching the semi-final stage of the competition.

The five-time world champions made a great improvement in the game against Ghana, as they created enormous chances which was rewarded in the 77th minute.

Joseph Arumala converted from the spot to give the Golden Eaglets a 1-0 lead, but the joy was short-lived as Ghana restored parity within seven minutes.

The results leaves Nigeria on. a solitary point, same as Ghana who has a game in hand against group leaders Ivory Coast.

Nigeria currently awaits the outcome of the last Group B match between Ivory Coast and Ghana to determine their fate in the WAFU tournament.

Only two teams from each group makes it to the semifinals as the tournament winners and 1st runner up will qualify automatically to the U-17 African Cup of Nations billed for Morocco.
